1. What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a modern and up-to-date approach, combines elements of SFBT, CBT and NLP. It uses a highly effective and safe form of talking psychotherapy, with hypnosis, to help you make positive and lasting change. Hypnosis helps your conscious and subconscious minds come together into a deeply relaxed state (trance). This is a perfectly natural state that we go into many times a day during our everyday lives (e.g.) when watching television, reading a book, exercising, or focusing on a task. During trance, the subconscious mind (which influences 95% of our thoughts and behaviours) is open to positive suggestions which promote and reinforce what we have discussed during the talking part of our session. See Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
2. Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Yes it is. No-one can be hypnotised against their will. Even when in trance, your mind can reject any suggestions which do not align with what you want to change.
3. Will I have to talk about my past?
No. It is Solution Focused which means we concentrate on how you want things to be, rather than how you don’t want them to be. We don’t ignore what brought you to seek support in the first place, we just don’t dwell on it. You will not have to revisit past trauma or negative memories. We look at the present and your preferred future, not the past. We will discuss why this is so beneficial for your brain during our Initial Consultation.
4. Will I reveal personal secrets whilst in Hypnosis (Trance)?
No. Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis. You are in full control of everything you say and do at all times. Clients don’t talk during trance unless specifically required to. You will be in a deeply relaxed state that feels great!
5. How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies depending on your own individual circumstances. On average, 8-12 sessions are required, with many clients starting to see positive change after just a couple of sessions. Some clients require more sessions, but you are fully in control of how many you feel you need. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and it is important to understand that change happens because you want it to. If you are ready for change and committed to engaging in the process, you will see faster and more effective results.
6. What can Hypnotherapy help with?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of conditions, many of which are caused or exacerbated by stress and/or anxiety. Our brain and our body are inextricably linked, so working to positively change our mindset, positively impacts what happens within our body. See How I can Help You.
Although I cannot guarantee outcomes, I do have excellent success rates in helping clients achieve their goals and helping them to bring about significant change. See Testimonials.
7. Does Online Hypnotherapy work?
Yes! Online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face sessions and the format is exactly the same. Some clients find they can relax better in their own familiar environment. I’ve seen clients at home, in their office, and in their car. A laptop is useful, but some clients use a tablet or mobile phone. All you need is a good internet connection and a confidential, safe space, free from any distractions, where you can feel comfortable and relaxed.
8. How do I know you are adequately qualified?
I hold the Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH), which required me to complete 10 months of intensive training, including 200 client contact hours. I also hold the Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) which is widely recognised as the gold standard in hypnotherapy and required me to submit 8 full client case studies and a written portfolio of over 31,000 words.
